Cover. A detail of a woven scarf made by the Iban tribe of Sarawak. Of cotton material, it features the spirit pattern or buah antu. The scarf plays an important part in the life of the tribe. It is worn around the waist during ceremonies; wrapped around offerings at death rites or round a whetstone before it is used in ceremonies connected with the clearing of new ground for planting. The arts and crafts of the tribes in Sarawak are exhibited at the Kuching Museum.
