Collected by George West, gift of the Essex institute, 1969, to the Peabody Museum of Salem. This is one of the objects in the exhibition, Japan Day by Day, presented two years ago by the Peabody Museum in honor of Edward Sylvester Morse, who, 100 years ago, introduced anthropology to the Japanese with his “Shell Mounds of Omori,” Photograph by Mark Sexton.
