Memoryscapes

  • Louisiana Museum of Modern Art 13 Gl Strandvej Humlebæk, 3050 Denmark (map)

Building on stories, recollections and traditions, the two studios presented in Memoryscapes - the second exhibition in the series Architecture Connecting - delve into the past with both precise interventions and broad archaeological investigation. They seek to create new architectural solutions and narratives that can benefit the present and form a bridge to the future.

Architecture’s connections to concepts and mindsets known from anthropology, archaeology and geology are spotlighted in the exhibition with the two studios DnA Architecture and Design (Beijing) and ATTA – Atelier Tsuyoshi Tane Architects (Paris).

Central to the exhibition – the second in the series on ‘Architecture Connecting’ – is the notion that the human narrative is central when it comes to creating space for the dreams of future generations.

Complex Networks
The two studios are led by Chinese Xu Tiantian and Japanese Tsuyoshi Tane, who both seek to “excavate” stories about places and landscapes in order to connect past, present and future. To this end, their studios develop new working methods that link social traditions, cultural heritage, craftsmanship and production conditions together in complex networks.

Architectural Acupuncture
One example is a series of small but significant interventions in an abandoned quarry in Jinyun (Zhejiang province in eastern China). Here, with simple walkways, stairs and landings, she has managed to create a new social space, to the delight of both locals and tourists.
