The Covenant of Dadu: A Diplomacy of Things between Mountains and Seas

  • Taichung Art Museum 2201號 Zhongke Road Taichung City, 407011 Taiwan (map)

When the formation of a city is not solely shaped by human construction, but rather emerges from the interweaving of land, rivers, crops, and technology—how might we rethink the art and history of Taichung?

Grounded in urban studies and the development of art, the Taichung Art Museum presents the exhibition “The Covenant of Dadu: A Diplomacy of Things between Mountains and Seas” opening on May 8.

Curated by Assistant Professor Shen,Yu Chang of National Taipei University of Education, the exhibition centers on the Dadu Plateau and proposes the concept of “material diplomacy.” From a contemporary aesthetic perspective, it explores how Central Taiwan’s artistic energy and everyday landscapes have been shaped over time through developments such as railway infrastructure and urbanization.

✦ 55 artists × 70 works spanning generations and disciplines, presenting the development of art in Central Taiwan

✦ A combination of collection pieces, loans, and commissioned works, interweaving multiple historical perspectives

✦ A reinterpretation of Central Taiwan’s artistic trajectory through a contemporary aesthetic lens.

✦ Featuring significant works by leading senior artists.

✦ Taichung Art Museum presents a systematic review of the development of fine arts in the Taichung region.

Admission is free. We warmly invite you to step into the exhibition and rediscover how Central Taiwan’s unique cultural landscape has been shaped through the interplay of nature, transportation, and industry.
