As the world struggles for peace, the impressive programme of museum exhibitions, symposia, lectures, auctions, dealer exhibitions, galas and receptions organized for the fourth 'Asian Art in London' presents an opportunity to follow the call to continue life as normal. This issue highlights some of the museum exhibitions. Meri Arichi discusses the British Museum's ehxibition of objects drawn from Japan's Imperial collection, and shrines, temples and museums; Gregory Irvine's appreciation of the Japanese sword as a unique art form introduces the Victoria and Albert Museum's exhibition; and John Falconer illustrates his discussion on the achievements of amateur and commercial photographers in India in the 19th century with highlights from the exhibtiion organized by Asia House. Shelagh Vainker's interview with Michael Sullivan celebrated the opening of the Khoan and Michael Sullivan Gallery of Chinese Painting at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford and gives a glimpse of his lifetime devotion to contemporary Chinese painting. Rose Kerr's article gives a hint at the richness of the collections of Chinese and Japanese porcelains amassed in Dresden by Augustus the Strong.
