VOLUME 36 - NUMBER 5

The Musée Cernuschi was closed in 2001 for extensive renovation and conversion, but is now opening its doors again in June with redesigned and enlarged galleries. Gilles Béguin describeds some of the new features, and Michel Maucuer provides a profile of Cernuschi the man, covering the beginnings of his collecting and the founding of his museum. Further articles discuss different aspects of the collections: Olivier Venture examines emblems on Shang and Western Zhou bronzes; Michel Maucuer takes a fresh look at several bronze mirrors in the collection which have previously been listed as Chinese; Hélène Chollet presents some recent acquisitions which have enhanced the museum's masterpieces, the controversial handscroll Grooms Presenting Horses.
