Christian Luczanits. The Cave of Great Adepts
In 2007 the rediscovery of a painted cave hidden in the barren mountain landscape of Upper Mustang, Nepal, hit the international headlines. As is common in such cases, accurate and detailed information was scarce, and the same picture of a standing female, the dakini in Figure 1, was published by various sources. At that time the paintings were cursorily attributed to the 11th century, possibly in an attempt to make the find appear more sensational.
