Jin Xu. Evanescent Temple, Eternal Dharma. The Wanfa Guiyi Hall in the Post-Qianlong Era of the Qing Dynasty
The Wanfa Guiyi Hall is a unique jewel in the crown that is the Little Potala, one of the largest imperial Buddhist temples of the Qing dynasty (1644–1911). It was built by the Qianlong emperor (1711–99) in Chengde, Hebei Province, China, during the dynasty’s heyday to celebrate the majestic achievements of a multicultural and multiethnic empire. Today, the magnificent hall and its surrounding buildings still stand gloriously; in 1961, they were included in the first group of National Key Protected Cultural Relic Units and in 1994 were named a UNESCO World Heritage site. Under such close conservational protection, there is little doubt that the Wanfa Guiyi Hall will be preserved for posterity.
