Stephen A. Murphy and Clement Onn. Trade and the Maritime Silk Routes: Level One Galleries at the Asian Civilisations Museum
On Level One of the Asian Civilisations Museum, visitors can now find a display of the ‘Tang Shipwreck’ cargo, which shows evidence of 9th century maritime trade between Tang dynasty (618–907) China, Southeast Asia and the Abbasid Caliphate (750–1258), as well as galleries of export art from various Asian port cities, telling the story of the trading networks between Asia and the rest of the world. Additionally, the Singapore Archaeology gallery displays archaeological material excavated in the vicinity of the
museum, along the Singapore river and at Fort Canning Hill. The objects date to as early as the 14th century.
