Gereon Kopf. ‘Art in Context’ – ‘Walking with Kukai’
This article discusses the pilgrimage in Japan known as the ‘88 places of Shikoku’,
dedicated to Kukai (774–835). Associated with Shingon Buddhism, this 750-mile
pilgrimage takes in 88 official and 20 unofficial temples along the coastline of the island
of Shikoku. The article presents some of the sites encountered along the route.
