Feier Ying. Ten Thousand Miles and One Hundred Years: A 17th Century Panoramic Yangzi River Scroll from the Weng Collection at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

In honour of Wan-go H. C. Weng’s (b. 1918) 100th birthday this summer, the exhibition
‘10,000 Miles, 100 Years: Celebrating Wan-go H. C. Weng’ at the Museum of Fine Arts,
Boston (MFA) will feature an extraordinary object from the Weng family collection—the
16-metre-long Changjiang wanli tu (Ten Thousand Li up the Yangzi River; Yangzi River
scroll) by the early Qing dynasty (1644–1911) landscape painter Wang Hui (1632–
1717). Decoding this painting, passed through five generations of the Weng family, and
its collecting history, will reveal the breadth and significance this single painting
carries—and the interweaving of a 10,000-mile journey with a 100-year history.
