Seeking the Beauty of Japanese Glass: The Bindeisha Collection

Miho Museum
18 March 2017 - 18 June 2017  |  Official Website

Though there are countless outstanding glassworks in the world, is there anything more ephemeral and delicate than vidro from the Edo period (1600-1868) with its indescribable sublime color? The artisans who handled the glass, melted in the flames, created intricate variations with their craft and skill. The differences created by the air blown into the bottles, the subtle gradations of blue, green, and pruple, the exquisite color composition of marble glass, the gentle feel of the surface, and each facet cut carefully with a metal file all give Japanese glass a soft cut unlike the lines made by cutting wheels.
