Stuff of Snuff Bottles

Perry, the “Old Bruin” (I)

Cover. Snuff bottles of China – which the Chinese literally call “nose-smoke bottles” – have been a continuing source of joy for thousands of collectors the world over. In this issue we present a survey of the most important materials the Chinese have used to hold the aromatic concoction of tobacco, spices and salt. From the collection of Michael Kaynes, cover shows glass snuff bottles, carved (ground) with traditional decorations, imitating bottles made of hard and semiprecious stones.
