Cover. In terms of fastidious selection and scholarly coherence, though not in size, the famous collection of the late Sir Percival Victor David is the most important assembly of Chinese ceramics. It includes not only wares relatively popular in the West but also such comparatively less known wares as Ting, Ju, Kuan and Chun. Of the last named, the pear-shaped piece with a tiny mouth on the cover is an outstanding example. It is a fourteenth century water dropper of soft Chun ware, its body of a buff sandy ware with a thick lavender-blue glaze. Diameter 8.9 centimeters.
