Seated on a fine horse, a Chinese nobleman of the eleventh century rides along a silken scroll. A detail from "The Promenade of the Three Beauties," painted by the Sung dynasty artist, Li Kung-lin (A.D. 1040-1106), in the manner of the preceding Tang dynasty masters. The original is from the collection of the National Palace Museum, Taiwan, Republic of China. A portfolio of Horse Paintings is on pages 52-59.
