Clare Pollard. Meiji Japanese Textiles at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford

Threads of Silk and Gold: Ornamental Textiles of Meiji Japan’ will be the first exhibition devoted to the art of Meiji period ornamental textiles ever to be held outside Japan. While the traditional Japanese kimono has long been appreciated worldwide, this exhibition will introduce the lesser-known but equally spectacular ornamental textiles that were made for the Western market during the Meiji era (1868-1912).
