Atteqa Ali. Commentary: The Artist as Collector: Art Patronage in Pakistan
During the last fifteen years, there has been a steady shift in the kind of art practised in Pakistan. There is a growing awareness and interest in exploring what it means to make art in the South Asian nation, and there are now several artists who are investigating the social, political and historical conditions that affect life there. This shift has been made possible by an older generation of established artist-collectors who not only produce socially and politically aware art themselves, but who are also willing and able to patronize younger emerging artists, thereby encouraging them to keep working.
