Alfred Haft. Japanese Prints of the Edo and Meiji Periods
The Sackler Gallery is well known for its comprehensive holdings of Japanese woodblock prints of the Edo period (1615-1868). These traces of one of the world’s great popular cultures demonstrate the variety and skill of the period’s artists and include subjects ranging from landscapes to warriors to the theatre. The prints reflect the discerning care of collectors east and west, being in as near to their original state as one can hope for today.
