China's Hidden Century

  • British Museum Great Russell Street London, England United Kingdom (map)

China’s Hidden Century is a forthcoming exhibition at the British Museum which explores the last century of imperial rule in China from 1796-1912. This long century is often seen as giving way to modern China.

Despite the turmoil of civil wars, foreign invasions, droughts and famines, the multi-cultural people of the Qing empire demonstrated extraordinary resilience. The creativity and vitality of a range of characters is celebrated in this show.
