HeritageWatch - HeritageWatch has a number of strategies to help reduce
the occurrence of heritage destruction in Cambodia. The primary aim is to raise awareness among the Cambodian people of the damaging effects of looting. Through a
public education campaign sponsored by the US Embassy, HeritageWatch hopes that rural Cambodians will be motivated to
protect their heritage resources.
HeritageWatch is also proposing to undertake a number of other initiatives that will reduce the occurrence
of looting including an effort to raise awareness of heritage issues with Cambodia's border police. Another project
promotes the involvement of the rural population in the sustainable development of the ancient Khmer capital of Koh Ker.
With assistance from HeritageWatch the people of Koh Ker will provide tourist services and establish sustainable
businesses near the temples. In return the residents will form heritage patrols to monitor the site's precious assets.
